Over the past few years pagers have evolved from being simple 'beepers' to sophisticated multi-function message machines. This may be fine for the wide-area market, but users of on-site paging systems have different requirements. Simplicity is normally the main criteria, but because of the diversity of applications, the pager also has to be capable of being adapted to specific customer requirements. With some models, it is possible to disable or modify virtually every function.
